Google Desktop was one of Google's free software applications. The desktop search was a tool which allowed the user to search his or her computer for files, images, music, emails, and nearly everything else. Along with Google Desktop 4, "Gadgets" were released. They performed different types of functions, such as reading RSS feeds, telling time, looking cool, or displaying PC performance. Developers could create their own gadgets as well.
SearchEditThe original, and main function of Google Desktop was to provide a search engine for the desktop. The search engine could be accessed from anywhere by pressing Ctrl (or ⌘) twice.
On September 14th, 2011, Google Desktop was discontinued upon the closing of Google Labs, and the download link was removed. However, if the user has already downloaded it, he can keep it. It does not recieve any more updates, though.
