Android 5.0 Lollipop is a version of Android. It was announced and previewed at Google I/O 2014 under the name "Android L". The update was officially released with the name Lollipop Reuploaded on November 1, 2014. The version was the largest update Android has ever received, with the first major UI change since Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in 2011-2012.  The Nexus 6 was the first Android device to feature Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The largest part of the update is the addition of Material Design, which adds a more fluid and consistent interface across all of Google's products. The main emphasis of Material Design on Android was that all transitions were animated. The update also includes things such as Chromecast mirroring, screen pinning, improved security, and more.

Throughout all of the demos at Google I/O 2014, this version of Android was referred to as "Android L", which gave neither the version number also called "Android 4.4.4", nor the complete name. However, Motorola Germany posted in a Tweet that "Android 5.0 arrives in autumn on Moto X and Moto G". Furthermore, with so many changes to the operating system, it can only be expected that Android will be updated to version 5.0, rather than version 4.4.4. Many have also speculated that the "L" in "Android L" stands for "KitKat Lollipop", which would match Google's tradition of naming Android versions alphabetically after different sweets.
